The Haynes Family Journey Began with Steam-Powered Drilling in the Early 1900s

In 1915, Paul M. Haynes began assisting his stepfather Emerson Moses with well drilling. At the time, steam-powered cable rigs were the industry standard. Paul’s uncles, Jud and Frank, also worked as well drillers in the region. Paul spent his life drilling both water and natural gas wells for various companies, helping shape the foundation of a family business that would span generations.

A Shift in Generations Marked a New Era of Leadership and Growth

By the mid-1960s, Paul’s son, Paul A. Haynes, joined the family business. After four years in the U.S. Navy and a position as an electronics technician at the Radford Arsenal, Paul A. returned to his roots. Drawn by his love for the outdoors and the desire to build something of his own, he stepped into the role alongside his father. In 1974, Paul M. Haynes retired, passing the business fully into the hands of his son.

Second Generation Builds on Family Heritage and Technical Skill

Paul A. Haynes led the company for over five decades, training all five of his children in well drilling, pump installation, and water system services. Two children pursued careers in the water industry, carrying forward the Haynes name with the same focus on quality and integrity. Their mother, Ruth, consistently reminded them that the family’s good name should guide each of them toward achieving their best potential.

Today’s Haynes Team Continues a Tradition of Family and Excellence

Haynes Well & Pump Service remains a family-run company based in Christiansburg, VA. Now operated by Dallas M. Haynes, the company continues to serve residential, commercial, and municipal clients. Dallas employs his son Matthew Haynes and other family members to ensure the business stays grounded in tradition while adapting to today’s demands.
